City Appoints New Technical Team After Ertugral’s Dismissal

Cape Town City has announced the appointment of Diogo Peral as the interim coach for the rest of the season.

Peral will be aided by former club captain Lebogang Manyama and Roger de Sa.

This change follows the departure of coach Muhsin Ertugral on Monday, resulting from a series of unsatisfactory performances.

Ertugral, who took over in January to succeed Eric Tinkler, experienced a downturn in the team’s performance, culminating in a 10-match winless streak.

During his tenure, Ertugral secured only three wins out of 14 matches, facing eight losses, and leaving the club positioned 13th in the Betway Premiership with 23 points from 23 games.

“Diogo Peral will lead the first team until the season ends, receiving support from Lebogang Manyama and Roger De Sa,” announced Cape Town City.

De Sa had been without a coaching role since wrapping up his position as an assistant coach in Qatar, where he collaborated with former Bafana Bafana coach Carlos Queiroz until December 2023.

Having a coaching background with the Egypt national team and Iran under Queiroz, De Sa shares a solid rapport with Cape Town City chairman John Comitis.

The 60-year-old, who previously played as a goalkeeper for Bafana Bafana, won the MTN8 title with Ajax Cape Town in the 2015/16 season after defeating Kaizer Chiefs in the final held at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
