Historic Turnout at Moscow Tram Parade and Exhibition

Moscow – The recent grand tram parade in the Russian capital, Moscow, drew an unprecedented number of attendees.

Over 220,000 locals and visitors convened to commemorate the city’s tram history, achieving the highest turnout in the last five years.

A fleet of 11 trams traveled along a newly established route, starting from Shabolovka Street to the Danilovskaya Manufactory and back.

Attendees were granted the exclusive chance to step aboard the beautifully restored tramcars, inspect their interiors, and view vintage fare boxes and ticket punchers that were once part of fare collection.

The festivities also encompassed the newly refurbished P.L. Apakov tram depot, which welcomed the public for the first time following significant renovations.

The depot featured an exhibition showcasing over 20 historic tramcars from different eras, allowing visitors to sit in the seats, grasp the handrails, and delve into the rich history of Moscow’s tram system.

The event transcended a mere parade.

Attendees reveled in live performances by musical and dance groups, highlighted by a performance from the popular band “Moralny Kodex.”

Guests also engaged in contests to win exciting prizes and enjoyed hearty meals prepared in a field kitchen.

Moscow Transport expressed pride in continuing the tradition of hosting tram parades in the city.

“Last year, we organized three such events, attracting over 500,000 attendees,” stated Maksim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry.

“The tram parade on Shabolovka Street reaffirmed that our residents value this magnificent mode of transportation, which is undoubtedly a symbol of our city.

“We will persist in developing Moscow’s tram network under Mayor Sergey Sobyanin’s guidance.”

The deputy mayor emphasized that the tram parade and exhibition serve as a vibrant reminder of the city’s commitment to preserving and celebrating its transportation heritage while simultaneously modernizing and expanding its tram services.

“This year’s event was a remarkable success, uniting the community to honor a cherished symbol of Moscow,” concluded Maksim Liksutov.
