Sundowns Makes Moves to Secure Lunga’s Future

Mamelodi Sundowns has put forth a new contract proposal to Zimbabwean international defender Divine Lunga ahead of the forthcoming season.

Lunga’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the season, but the Brazilians have promptly moved to ensure his long-term commitment.

The 29-year-old left-back has been instrumental in Sundowns’ success, playing a significant role in the team’s league title win, their progression to the Nedbank Cup final, and an impressive run to the CAF Champions League semifinals in 2024.

This season, Lunga has maintained his high performance, supporting Sundowns in securing the league title and advancing to both the Carling Knockout final and the Champions League final.

He joined Sundowns from Golden Arrows in 2021 but was subsequently loaned back to Arrows in 2022.

He made his return to Sundowns in January 2024 and has swiftly established himself as a vital member of the team.

The Zimbabwean international has cemented his role as a key player for Sundowns, and the new contract offer acknowledges his dedication and effort.

The specifics of the new contract are not publicly available, according to sources at Sportswire.

Lunga has appeared in 42 matches, contributing one goal and one assist for Sundowns.

Sundowns currently benefits from a talented pool of left-backs, including Terrence Mashego, Aubrey Modiba—whose contract is set to expire this season—Asekho Tiwani, and Sifiso Ngobeni, who is currently on loan at AmaZulu, in addition to Lunga.
