Karren Brady Addresses Graham Potter Following West Ham’s Opening Day Loss to Sunderland

KARREN BRADY has shown her backing for manager Graham Potter, particularly after West Ham’s lackluster opening-match performance in six years.

The Hammers’ vice-chair has voiced her support for Potter following the disappointing 3-0 defeat to newly promoted Sunderland on Saturday.

Potter, aged 50, has faced significant scrutiny since taking the reins at the London Stadium, succeeding Julen Lopetegui in January, with a record of 10 losses in 20 matches across all competitions.

However, Brady, 56, assures that the board will not “panic” over unfavorable results but anticipates a “reaction” in the upcoming Premier League home match against Chelsea on Friday.

Brady commented on the talkSPORT Sunday Edition: “I wish we could replay yesterday. The loss is particularly hard to take.

“A 3-0 defeat, especially in our season opener, is always tough for the fans, players, and manager.

“I devoted considerable time with the manager and the team during our pre-season trip in America.

“The team spirit is remarkable. They will undoubtedly be the most disappointed following that match.

“I am optimistic we will see a response, as they are eager to bounce back quickly.

“Graham is an innovative manager. He stays calm under pressure, is meticulous in his planning, and is a fantastic leader.

“He forges strong relationships with players, helping them understand his vision.

“He adopts modern concepts, which requires time to build a cohesive and successful team.

“West Ham is not a club that panics over managerial issues. We prefer to back our managers and ride things out.

“I truly hope for his success. He is a pleasure to work with, demonstrating great professionalism. The players respect him highly.

“His connection with the players is commendable.

“I know he’ll be meeting with the team today to meticulously review the mistakes from yesterday, looking for a way to correct them.”

Recently, Paqueta, 27, was cleared by an independent regulatory panel following a two-year FA investigation into allegations of spot-fixing.

The South American midfielder, who has two years remaining on his contract, faced uncertainty had he been found guilty.

Despite links to Manchester City prior to the investigation, the club is not looking to sell him, considering him a vital part of their strategy this season.

Brady emphasized: “I believe he wants to stay, and we wholeheartedly want him to remain, so he’s not going anywhere.

“Lucas has faced an incredibly tough time.

“The accusations against him were severe, sparking discussions of a global ban from the FA. The gravity of that situation was significant.

“From the very beginning, when the allegations arose, he stood firm, affirming his innocence. There was no proof connecting him to any misconduct.

“Thus, receiving this verdict was an enormous relief. We have always believed in him and supported him throughout this challenging period.”
