Re-Arrest of Escaped Robbery Suspect Muluvhu Gumani in Waterval

Polokwane – Authorities have apprehended 34-year-old robbery suspect Muluvhu Gumani, who had previously fled from custody while being transported to court.

Gumani made his escape from a police vehicle at an intersection on Monday, 25 August 2025.

He was originally detained for robbery with a weapon other than a firearm.

Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba announced on Thursday, 28 August 2025, that the individual evading justice had been captured once again.

“The Thohoyandou police of the Vhembe District have successfully re-arrested an awaiting trial prisoner who had escaped police custody earlier in the week,” stated Colonel Ledwaba.

According to the police spokesperson, Gumani was re-arrested on Wednesday, 27 August 2025, in the Waterval area, where he was hiding out in a rental property.

Colonel Ledwaba indicated that police acted on a tip-off, which they followed accurately, leading to Gumani’s recapture.

The suspect is set to appear before the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 29 August 2025.

In addition to the original robbery charge, Gumani now faces further charges for escaping from lawful custody.
