Constable ‘Mute’ Arrested After Witnessing Chesnay Kepler Murder: Crime Warden Details

Johannesburg – The police constable who witnessed the murder of Gauteng Crime Warden Chesnay Kepler has been taken into custody by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID).

The 35-year-old constable associated with the Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) at the Eldorado Park Police Station was arrested on Friday, 29 August 2025.

IPID spokesperson Lizzy Suping announced that the constable’s case is related to the murder of Kepler.

He faces charges of attempted murder and neglecting to report a crime scene to IPID.

Kepler was tragically shot, allegedly by her boyfriend, Police Sergeant Mandla Buthelezi, last December.

Sergeant Buthelezi, who is currently out on bail, was also stationed at the Eldorado Park Police Station during the incident.

“The accused will remain in custody until his initial court appearance on Monday, 01 September 2025, at the Protea Magistrate’s Court,” the IPID spokesperson stated.
