NVIDIA to invest $100 billion in OpenAI
The Worldcoin (WLD) community saw its optimism rise with OpenAI announcing a multi-billion dollar investment from Nvidia.
On Sept. 22, OpenAI, under Sam Altman’s leadership, disclosed its strategic partnership with NVIDIA, a worldwide leader in artificial intelligence computing. As per the agreement, Nvidia will incrementally invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI.
This partnership unites two of the foremost entities in the AI arena, setting the stage for OpenAI to establish and deploy 10 gigawatts of AI data centers utilizing Nvidia systems. Nvidia’s investment will be phased with each gigawatt deployment, the inaugural one anticipated in the latter half of 2026, as announced by both companies.
OpenAI eyes new AI breakthroughs
OpenAI is designating Nvidia as its primary compute partner, aiming to leverage this collaboration for groundbreaking advancements in AI. The organization behind ChatGPT envisions amplifying the benefits for businesses and communities.
“Everything starts with compute,” remarked Altman, OpenAI co-founder and CEO. “Compute infrastructure will be the cornerstone of the future economy, and we will harness our collaboration with NVIDIA to generate new AI breakthroughs and provide them to people and businesses on a large scale.”
Jensen Huang, NVIDIA’s founder and CEO, added:
“NVIDIA and OpenAI have stimulated each other for a decade, from the initial DGX supercomputer to the breakthrough ChatGPT. This investment and infrastructure partnership signify the next significant advance—deploying 10 gigawatts to fuel the next era of intelligence.”
This collaboration enhances existing integrations with leading partners such as Oracle, Microsoft, SoftBank, and Stargate.
The AI infrastructure stemming from these developments has propelled OpenAI’s weekly active user base to over 700 million, encompassing enterprises, small businesses, and developers. The company aims to broaden this influence with “artificial general intelligence that benefits all of humanity,” a crucial aspect also tied to Worldcoin’s proof-of-human system.
