Kaze Provides Injury Update on Ighodaro and Additional Players
Kaizer Chiefs coach Cedric Kaze has provided an optimistic update on the injury status of newly signed striker Etiosa Ighodaro, who is still looking forward to his first match for Amakhosi.
Following their victory against Kabuscorp in the second leg of the first preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup at FNB Stadium, Kaze revealed that the medical team at Amakhosi has given them encouraging news about Ighodaro.
“Ighodaro has been dealing with an injury, but the medical staff has instilled hope in us,” Kaze remarked.
“He has started training with the team this week without any physical contact. We expect him to be ready to play after the international break.”
The comments from the Chiefs coach bring relief to fans eagerly anticipating Ighodaro’s debut.

The striker is one of the new signings yet to make an appearance for Amakhosi, while Flavio Silva and Khanyisa Mayo have already been in the spotlight. Mayo has scored, and Silva has found the net twice, while Ighodaro’s injury has sidelined him.
Nevertheless, Kaze’s hopes for Ighodaro’s recovery come with worries about the status of the new players’ registrations for the CAF tournament.
When inquired about the availability of Mayo, Lebohang Maboe, and Ighodaro for the next CAF match, Kaze confirmed that the three will not play as they are not yet registered for CAF.
“If I remember correctly, I would say Mayo will miss out until the group stage, along with Ighodaro and Maboe,” he shared.
“However, I’m confident that the remaining players will rise to the occasion, including Velebayi, as well as Paseko Mako, Thabiso Monyane, and Siphesihle Ndlovu, who have all returned from injuries, and even Ethan Chislet, who should be ready for the next round.”
Chiefs are gearing up to face the winner of the clash between DR Congo’s AS Simba and Djabel from Comoros in the next round. The Congolese team achieved a 1-0 victory in the first leg, and the upcoming second leg will determine who Amakhosi will compete against for a spot in the group stage.
