Ekurhuleni City Unveils New Ililiba Water Tower in Tembisa
Germiston – The MMC for Water and Sanitation in the City of Ekurhuleni, Councillor Thembi Msane, has inaugurated the new Ililiba water tower located in Tembisa.
This 2ML tower enhances water pressure for areas including Ililiba, Emangweni, Emoyeni, Isekelo, and Endulweni, offering substantial relief to these communities as well as those situated in elevated locations.
The tower, inaugurated on Wednesday, 8 October 2025, comes equipped with a generator to guarantee continuous water supply during power outages.
Additionally, it features advanced remote consumption-monitoring technology for prompt intervention by engineers.

Water towers play a vital role by storing potable water at an elevated position, utilizing gravity to create pressure for effective water distribution.
This gravity-based pressure ensures a steady and reliable water flow without the need for constant pumping, which helps to meet peak demand and minimize operational costs.
The City of Ekurhuleni announced the development of several additional significant water infrastructure projects, such as the Kempton Park Reservoir, Fairleads Reservoir, Edelweiss Tower, and Almac Reservoir, aimed at enhancing water reliability and sustainability.
MMC Thembi Msane expressed her gratitude to residents for their patience during the construction period.
She emphasized that the provision of clean, reliable, and sustainable water is a core responsibility of the city.
MMC Msane urged residents to report any leaks, avoid using fire hydrants for non-essential purposes, and to engage in water conservation practices.
Community representatives expressed their appreciation to the city for completing this project.
