The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) reported that two students were hospitalized after being injured during confrontations with the police. Student leader Uzusiphe Vuzane informed the broadcaster that law enforcement allegedly employed live ammunition to disperse the protesters.
“One student sustained a gunshot wound to the left knee; another was shot just above the heart near the shoulder,” Vuzane reported.
