Fan Group Issues Sharp Criticism of FIFA Over ‘Fan-Failed World Cup’ and Expresses ‘Serious Concerns’ About Future Hosts
A collective of football enthusiasts has voiced criticism against Fifa concerning the upcoming 2026 World Cup, while also expressing worries about the 2030 tournament.
Football Supporters Europe (FSE) has turned their discontent towards Fifa president Gianni Infantino, former US president Donald Trump, and Fifa itself in a recent statement.
The statement declares: “The 2026 World Cup should have been a celebration of the game and the supporters who breathe life into it.
“Instead, it has often become a case study in the fundamental issues that plague football today.”
Infantino has faced considerable backlash for allowing the tournament to become “Americanized,” with halftime shows and hydration breaks turning into marketing spectacles.
Additionally, the Fifa president has been criticized for accruing an excessive number of air miles during the tournament, which contradicts Fifa’s climate commitments.

The fan group issued a statement detailing numerous critical issues that Fifa has overseen.
It mentioned: “The controversy surrounding this Fifa-hosted World Cup has ranged from its dubious ‘Peace Prize’ to appease Donald Trump to bending its own regulations to breaking point.
“They have transformed the identity of the game beyond recognition, with government interference in the sport.
“Segmenting matches with ad breaks disguised as hydration breaks, replacing a 15-minute halftime with a pop concert, Iran being denied entry into the US on non-match days, and the Balogun scandal are clear low points.”

“Fifa will exit this World Cup with its reputation irrevocably damaged among supporters, having created a chasm of distrust.”
The next World Cup is upon us, set to take place across six nations and three continents for the first time in history.
From a European standpoint, the FSE contends that Spain and Portugal will present additional challenges for Fifa.
It stated: “For FSE and its members, the focus now shifts to the six co-hosts of the 2030 FIFA World Cup (Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay).
“From the very beginning, the tournament must be organized with match-going supporters at the forefront. As a European organization, we are highly aware of the significant concerns regarding safety, security, and service standards at football matches in Spain and Portugal.
“Supporters frequently report disproportionate policing, police violence, invasive body searches, poor communication, and inadequate supporter services. Too often, supporters are viewed as risks to be managed rather than guests to be welcomed.
“If Spain and Portugal aim to be successful co-hosts for the World Cup, these problems, along with issues from this summer’s World Cup, must be adequately addressed.
“These nations are lagging behind current European standards for fan engagement and must adopt contemporary policies to bridge that gap.
“Fans around the globe will rightfully expect safe, accessible, welcoming, and well-organized matchday experiences, and these standards are non-negotiable.”
