Drug Courier Arrested: Ford Ranger Raptor Driver Caught With Over 1 Million Rand in Cash

Johannesburg – A 42-year-old driver of a Ford Ranger Raptor has been apprehended along the N3 near the Tugela Plaza, with over one million rand hidden in shoe boxes.

According to police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, the suspect was “unable to explain the origin of the funds in a satisfactory manner.”

The arrest occurred while police were investigating information that the individual was transporting illegal drugs.

“Upon searching his Ford Ranger Raptor on the N3 close to Tugela Plaza, authorities uncovered in excess of R1.1 million in cash concealed within shoe boxes,” stated Brigadier Mathe.

“The police confiscated the Ford Ranger Raptor, a registered firearm, a cellphone, and a laptop for further inquiry.”

She mentioned that the Gauteng Counter Intelligence Operations of the South African Police Service (SAPS) arrested three individuals in relation to money laundering and corruption.

“During the interrogation, the suspect allegedly tried to bribe the investigating officer,” Brigadier Mathe reported.

In response, Gauteng Counter Intelligence Operations initiated an entrapment operation, leading to the arrest of two additional suspects who purportedly attempted to bribe police officers with R200,000.

The other two suspects were traveling in a VW Amarok.

“The R200,000 was also confiscated, and the VW Amarok belonging to the suspects was seized as well,” noted Brigadier Mathe.

All three individuals face charges including money laundering and corruption.

The 42-year-old suspect is due to appear in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court.

Brigadier Mathe conveyed that the other two suspects arrested during the entrapment operation have already appeared before the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 14 August 2026.
