Mykhailo Mudryk Discusses the Struggles of His Drug Ban: 20 Months of Training Limbo at Chelsea
MYKHAILO MUDRYK discloses that he engaged in intense training to ensure readiness for his return to Chelsea.
The 25-year-old Ukrainian faced a provisional suspension in December 2024, following a failed anti-doping test.
Despite being unable to train at Cobham or play for Chelsea, Mudryk endured 20 grueling months of solo training, which included sessions on the 3G pitch of non-league Uxbridge FC.
He was granted permission to return last month after negotiating a reduction of his four-year FA ban via an appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Mudryk has now shared his insights on the dedication required to stay in top shape as he prepared for his return.
In a statement to the Chelsea website, Mudryk conveyed: “I missed a lot during this time—the training sessions and especially the matches; competing, winning, and always striving for more.”

“I would describe this period as a pre-season that lasted 18 months. I trained intensively, putting forth my best effort without faltering.”

Mudryk, who was originally signed by Chelsea for £61 million in 2023, made his return last week in a friendly match against Juventus, which ended in a loss.

During his time away, he missed significant events at Stamford Bridge.
The former Shakhtar Donetsk winger was absent during Enzo Maresca’s departure, two interim tenures by Calum McFarlane, Liam Rosenior’s entire time, and Xabi Alonso’s arrival.
Now, he is excited to be back in the game.
Mudryk added: “It’s been a long time, so returning to the same training ground is a genuinely thrilling moment for me.”
