Arrest of Third Suspect Happy Maponya in Businessman Tebogo Mothapo Murder Case

Polokwane – Authorities in Limpopo have apprehended a third individual in relation to the murder of businessman Tebogo Mothapo, aged 43.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, a 30-year-old suspect named Happy Maponya was taken into custody on Tuesday, 1 September 2026, at Ga-Thoka village in Mankweng, Limpopo.

This arrest brings the total number of suspects involved in the tragic shooting of Mothapo on 16 December 2025 to three.

The accused individuals, which include 19-year-old Kagontle Moshibudi Sina Bopape, 27-year-old Osama Asad, and Maponya, faced the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 1 September 2026.

They are charged with various offenses, including conspiracy to commit robbery, conspiracy to commit murder, murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of unlicensed ammunition, and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

All three suspects have been remanded in custody until 9 September 2026 for their bail applications.
