DIRCO Announces the Passing of Ambassador Muzikayifani Khehla Joseph Nkosi

Pretoria – The Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) has expressed “with great sadness” the premature passing of Ambassador Muzikayifani Khehla Joseph Nkosi.

According to the department, Ambassador Nkosi died on 29 August 2026.

Ambassador Nkosi became a member of the Department on 18 September 2017, serving with steadfast commitment as Ambassador to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela from 11 March 2018 until 31 March 2022.

He was subsequently appointed as Ambassador to the Republic of Chad, a position he held from 3 August 2022 until his untimely death.

Ambassador Nkosi was also recognized for his notable background in political activism, having served as the inaugural Deputy President of the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) and as the Chairperson of the South African Communist Party (SACP) in KwaZulu-Natal.

He exemplified a strong dedication to South Africa by consistently representing the nation’s interests and advocating for its economic strengths, diversity, and industrial capabilities, thus enhancing bilateral relations in the countries where he served.

“Minister Ronald Lamola, Deputy Minister Alvin Botes, Deputy Minister Thandi Moraka, Director-General Zane Dangor, and their colleagues extend their heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the late Ambassador Nkosi. May he rest in peace,” the department stated.
