Police Sergeant Killed in Mpumalanga: R150,000 Reward for Information

Schoemansdal – A reward of R150,000 is being offered for information that could lead to the arrest of the individuals responsible for the fatal shooting of police officer Lawrence Dumisani.

The 47-year-old sergeant from the Schoemandal Police Station in Mpumalanga was tragically killed while responding to a robbery at a supermarket over the weekend.

Sergeant Dumisani, who served as a police officer for 18 years, lost his life on Saturday, August 9, 2025.

The following day, Sunday, August 10, 2025, National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola, along with his Lieutenants from Mpumalanga and the national office, visited the grieving family of the fallen sergeant to convey their condolences.

The police leadership vowed to “leave no stone unturned” in the quest to bring all those responsible to justice.

The courageous officer and his colleagues were engaged in a shootout with the armed robbers when the tragedy occurred.

Sergeant Mtshweni was shot and subsequently pronounced dead at the hospital.

On Tuesday, August 12, 2025, Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier Donald Mdhluli stated: “The police leadership visited the family and then proceeded to the crime scene where Sergeant Mtshweni was shot while on duty and later died in the hospital.”

“During the visit, the national commissioner announced that one suspect had been apprehended, but further details will be shared at a later time,” Mdhluli added.

Brigadier Mdhluli continued: “General Masemola also mentioned that a reward of R150,000 has now been offered for anyone with information leading to the arrest of the individuals who took the life of Sgt Mtshweni.”
