Zwane Set to Miss Two Months of Competition

Mamelodi Sundowns’ head coach Miguel Cardoso has revealed that captain Themba Zwane is likely to be sidelined for approximately two months due to an injury incurred during the MTN8 semifinal against Orlando Pirates this past Saturday.

Zwane featured for only 14 minutes in the 1-1 draw with the Buccaneers and was missing during Sundowns’ 2-0 Betway Premiership triumph over Magesi at Seshego Stadium on Wednesday, with Jayden Adams filling in for him.

The 35-year-old player has faced ongoing injury issues, having previously dealt with an Achilles tear that required surgery in October of last year while playing for the national team against Congo.

The Bafana Bafana vice-captain has missed several matches for both Sundowns and the national squad, managing just seven league appearances for the Brazilians last season.

“Sadly, Themba is expected to be out for roughly two months,” Cardoso remarked.

“Nonetheless, I believe he will return stronger, and we look forward to his quick recovery.

“Since the onset of his injury, the club has implemented all necessary steps for his rehabilitation and we remain optimistic about his return soon.”

The Portuguese coach emphasized that every player is vital to the club, irrespective of their fitness status, and the team will come together to compensate for Zwane’s absence.

“Each player is an essential part of the club, even if they are not entirely fit, as we appreciate the challenges everyone faces. Despite this, he will make a comeback and return to the field shortly.”

The former Esperance Sportive de Tunis coach asserted that the Brazilians will rise to the challenge and maintain their competitive edge despite Zwane’s unavailability.

“We will elevate our performance along with the rest of the team to ensure we stay at the highest level during this time,” he concluded.
