Throughout the event, McIlroy achieved three victories for Europe, finishing with a total of 3.5 points, just behind Tommy Fleetwood for the weekend.
Since that triumph, he has enjoyed teasing both the USA players and fans, along with throwing light-hearted jabs at Fitzpatrick.
During a joint press conference, Team Europe engaged in discussing who amongst them were the best drinkers.
Tyrrell Hatton asserted that Sepp Straka “will stay undefeated,” whereas Shane Lowry admitted he struggles with alcohol compared to his teammates.
Straka named Hatton as a contender, while McIlroy unexpectedly selected Justin Rose.
Rose, looking a bit sheepish, admitted, “I got a bit scared of myself after 2018.”
Although Fitzpatrick had been relatively quiet until that moment, McIlroy called him out, suggesting he favors stats over socializing, remarking, “Fitzy has to fill in his stat sheet from today.”
Referring to Fitzpatrick’s well-documented obsession with data and shot tracking—he has reportedly tracked every stroke since 2019—McIlroy elicited hearty laughs in the press room.

“Golf should maintain a higher standard than what transpired this week.”

“Sadly, we didn’t witness much of that this week. Hence, this should not be regarded as acceptable at the Ryder Cup.”
