FA Considers Major Stadium Rule Revision Following Youth Cup Final Clash Between Man Utd and Man City

The FA is considering a major rule change in light of the disagreement between Manchester United and Manchester City concerning the venue for this year’s FA Youth Cup final.

At present, the team drawn first has the privilege of hosting the final match.

However, City’s decision to stage last week’s significant match at the 6,447-seat Joie Stadium rather than the Etihad infuriated United fans and academy staff.

According to the Dailymail, City claimed construction work made it impossible to hold the game at the Etihad.

United was said to have proposed holding the match at Old Trafford to allow the young players to perform in front of a much larger crowd.

Nonetheless, this suggestion was rejected, and the derby took place at City’s women’s ground, located next to the 53,400-seat Etihad.

The final ended with City winning 2-1, but the aftermath off the field quickly overshadowed the on-field performance.

The Manchester United Supporters’ Trust, along with members of the club’s fan forum, strongly condemned the decision in a united statement.

They labeled the venue choice as “a disgrace” and pointed out that 67,000 fans attended United’s previous Youth Cup final at Old Trafford.

The statement asserted further: “Allowing this significant match to occur in front of such a limited number of fans is a disservice to supporters and denies these young players the most important night of their careers thus far.”

Currently, reports suggest that FA officials are reevaluating the competition rules to avoid a repeat of the controversy.

One proposal under review is that if the designated hosts cannot hold the final at their main stadium, the match could be relocated to the opposing team’s ground.

United Under-18s manager Darren Fletcher conveyed his dissatisfaction following the match.

The former United player criticized both the choice of venue and the coordination surrounding the event.

Fletcher remarked: “I’m let down by the FA for everything surrounding this game, including the venue.”

“Respect must be shown to the opposition. But not when Man City dominates an FA Youth Cup. This is an FA competition; things shouldn’t have unfolded this way.”

He also criticized the pre-match presentation and ambiance.

Fletcher added: “I’ve never seen individual coaches and every single player acknowledged in such a manner. It’s not typical in cup finals.”

“It felt as though it was a Man City competition during the lead-up to the match.”
