Traffic Inspector Sfiso Andries Lubisi Killed in Car Crash on N4 in Mpumalanga

Jeppes Reef – A senior provincial traffic inspector, Sfiso Andries Lubisi, has tragically lost his life in a car accident on the N4 in Jeppes Reef, close to Malelane, Mpumalanga.

The 39-year-old traffic inspector was traveling with two colleagues when their vehicle was involved in a multi-vehicle collision with an Audi SUV and a truck earlier today, Friday, 15 May 2026.

Mpumalanga’s Spokesperson for Community Safety, Security, and Liaison, Moeti Mmusi, reported that another passenger and the driver sustained severe injuries in the incident, which took place around 07:00.

Regrettably, traffic inspector Lubisi, who was affiliated with the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security, and Liaison, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The severely injured passenger and driver have been transported to a private clinic for medical attention.

According to Spokesperson Mmusi, an initial investigation revealed that the Toyota Starlet, in which the deceased and his colleagues were riding, collided with another vehicle and a truck.

Mmusi stated: “Lubisi, who was a passenger in the sedan, was declared dead at the scene.”

“His two colleagues, the driver and passenger, suffered serious injuries and were taken to Medi-Clinic Mbombela for further treatment.”

However, the specific cause of this tragic collision remains unclear and is under investigation by the relevant authorities.

In commenting on the incident, Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security, and Liaison Jackie Macie remarked: “This represents a somber moment for law enforcement.

“It is particularly heartbreaking because traffic law enforcement officers risk their lives daily to prevent fatal accidents, only for some to lose theirs on the road.

“We urge his colleagues not to be discouraged by this untimely loss but to persist in their efforts to prevent accidents by enforcing the law.”

Macie expressed condolences to the bereaved family and wished the survivors a swift recovery.
