Replacement of Remaining SASSA Gold Cards with Black Cards Begins Next Week

Johannesburg – The Postbank has made a significant announcement regarding social grant recipients utilizing SASSA Gold Cards, marking the imminent transition to Black Cards.

The transition from SASSA Gold Cards will commence on Wednesday, 29 April 2026.

This card replacement initiative is part of the larger Postbank card migration program that began in September 2024, focusing on grant beneficiaries yet to migrate.

All social grant beneficiaries holding SASSA Gold Cards must migrate to the new cards by 31 August 2026.

Individuals without a Black Card after this date will be unable to access their SASSA grant payments, as the Gold Cards will cease to function.

For those grant beneficiaries who have already transitioned to Postbank Black Cards, no further action is needed.

Their Black Card remains valid and provides essential protections and benefits, including three free withdrawals, one complimentary card replacement, and a free monthly statement.

Importantly, their account is safeguarded against any deductions and ensures protection of personal information from misuse, eliminating the need to switch banks.

For those yet to migrate, the message is urgent; they are encouraged to begin collecting their Black Cards as soon as the distribution starts and should not rely on potential extensions as the migration deadline is set.

Postbank’s Chief Commercial Officer, Thamsanqa Cele, stated: “Beginning this month, we are ramping up the final phases of the SASSA Gold Cards replacement procedure.

“This is a direct appeal for customers who have not yet transitioned — please act promptly and regard this invitation with the seriousness it warrants.

“The deadline will not be prolonged, and customers who miss it risk disruptions in their grant payments.”

Black Cards can be obtained from any Postbank location within selected retailers, including Shoprite, Checkers, Usave, Pick n Pay, Boxer, and Spar stores.

The process is FREE and does not require beneficiaries to fill out any forms. They only need to present a valid RSA ID (or a Temporary ID).

Cards can be collected from any province, even if it differs from the one where a person’s SASSA grant was approved.

Postbank Black Cards become active immediately upon issuance, and there is no need to visit a SASSA office.

Any funds on a customer’s Gold Card will automatically transfer to the new cards.

To locate the nearest open replacement site, beneficiaries can dial #120*355# from any mobile phone.

These sites will also assist customers who have lost their Black Cards and help with PIN resets.

For any inquiries, customers should contact Postbank at 0800 53 54 55.

It is important to remember that if the Black Card does not display Postbank on the front, and if beneficiaries are required to fill out forms to change their payment method for the card to function, then that card is not a Postbank Black Card.

Grant beneficiaries are advised to remain vigilant against fraudsters who may try to exploit them.

Those who have previously left Postbank and are considering returning should be patient and watch for announcements on how to make that switch.
