Former Mpumalanga ANC Treasurer Mandla Jeffrey Msibi Signs Up with SDP
Mbombela (Nelspruit) – Former treasurer of the African National Congress (ANC) in Mpumalanga, Mandla Jeffrey Msibi, has officially joined the Service Delivery Party (SDP).
The ex-MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs in Mpumalanga has been appointed as the National Convener for this newly established party, which is preparing to participate in the upcoming local government elections in November.
Msibi’s relationship with the ANC deteriorated last year due to allegations that he attempted to undermine the ANC’s January 8 Statement program held in Mpumalanga.
He faced suspension from the ANC and underwent a disciplinary process that ultimately found him guilty.
Msibi decided to resign from the ANC after he was not re-elected at the party’s recent provincial leadership conference.
He lost the election to the incumbent mayor of Mbombela, Sibongile Makushe-Mazibuko.
On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, Msibi was welcomed into the SDP during a ceremony at a sports ground in his hometown of Pienaar, where he was announced as the party’s national leader.

Additionally, the SDP announced that Msibi would be its candidate for mayor of Mbombela.
While addressing the SDP members, Msibi expressed that his decision to leave the ANC was made voluntarily.
He emphasized that his resignation was taken in a “good spirit.”
“I simply woke up one day and peacefully chose to resign,” Msibi noted.
“I did not even inform anyone beforehand.
“I made this decision independently, as I felt it was the right time for me to step back. I have served enough.”
In a statement following the event, the new party confirmed: “The Service Delivery Party has officially introduced trailblazer Mandla Msibi as its national convener and official mayoral candidate for the Mbombela Local Municipality in front of a capacity crowd at the eNkomeni Sports Ground.”
