Dangote Increases Investment in Ethiopian Fertilizer Plant to $4 Billion

Africa’s wealthiest individual is significantly increasing his investment in an Ethiopian fertiliser complex to exceed $4 billion, making Ethiopia the second-largest beneficiary of funds from the Dangote Group.

Alongside a two-million-ton NPK fertiliser blending plant, Aliko Dangote now intends to install a 110 km (68-mile) natural gas pipeline, a 120 megawatt power plant, and a polypropylene packaging facility, he stated to reporters in Gode town, located in Ethiopia’s southeastern Somali region.

“They are accounting for almost 9% of our total investment across Africa from now until 2030,” he remarked on Sunday, referencing Ethiopia.

The facility, which is being developed in partnership with Ethiopian Investment Holdings, the government’s investment arm, will have a production capacity of three million tons of urea and is projected to be operational by 2027.

Dangote mentioned his plans to establish blending plants for various fertiliser types in at least 20 countries. “Our goal is to be the primary supplier of fertiliser across the entire African continent,” he stated.
