This aligns with the 2024 event, which marked the first year the start time shifted from the traditional 5.15pm, a schedule that had been in place since 2016.
Previously, Sulekha Varma, the Jockey Club’s head of racing for the northwest, discussed the adjustments to the start time: “We spare no effort in ensuring world-class welfare standards for our participants and conduct reviews after every Grand National.
“These reviews consider various factors, leading to numerous changes, both significant and minor, each year. In October, we announced that one modification for 2024 would be to advance the race start time, which had been at 5.15pm since 2016.
“This decision was made following feedback from participants and other racing stakeholders regarding the extended lead-up to the race throughout the day, which caused increased tension. Such concerns were not present when the race previously started at either 3.45pm or 4.15pm.
“By moving the Grand National’s start time forward by 75 minutes to 4pm, we can also ensure optimal jumping conditions, as warm or windy weather can dry the racing surface.”
