Police Detain Second Senior Official from Ekurhuleni for Fraud Charges
Pretoria – Authorities have taken into custody a second high-ranking municipal official from the City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality on allegations of fraud and corruption.
“The 40-year-old official was apprehended this morning, Sunday, 19 April 2026, in Johannesburg,” stated police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe.
He is facing charges related to fraud, corruption, and hindering the course of justice.
The first senior official from the same metropolitan municipality, who faces akin allegations, was arrested on Saturday, 18 April 2026.
Media outlets have identified the detained individual as suspended Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department Deputy Commissioner Julius Mkhwanazi.

“Both individuals are scheduled to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 20 April 2026,” added Brigadier Mathe.
