Durban CBD Building Collapse: One Person Trapped and Three Injured

Durban – A structure undergoing renovation in the central business district has collapsed, trapping workers beneath it.

According to ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson, the incident occurred at a building located along Union Lane just before 11:00 on Saturday, 9 May 2026.

“Currently, one individual is thought to be severely trapped,” Jamieson reported.

Three other people sustained injuries, with one requiring stabilization at the scene prior to being transported to a hospital.

After approximately an hour and a half, eThekwini Emergency Services successfully rescued the worker trapped beneath the debris using heavy lifting equipment.

The individual was then taken to the hospital.
