MKP Requests Fired Spokesperson Ndhlela to Return Party Property and Access Card
Durban – The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) has effectively expelled former spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela from the party, which is led by ex-president Jacob Zuma.
Following Ndhlela’s removal as spokesperson, the MKP announced his membership suspension, his removal as an MP, and that he must return all party property in his possession within seven days.
Ndhlela was dismissed from his spokesperson role after issuing a controversial media statement regarding the recently established MK Institute, which he claimed would assume full control over the party’s leadership structures.
The party leadership deemed the statement “null and void,” asserting that it was unconstitutional, which led to his immediate dismissal.
On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, MKP National Chairperson Nkosinathi Nhleko sent a letter to Ndhlela outlining the sanctions.
“This letter serves to formally notify you that President Jacob Zuma has decided to suspend your membership of the party effective immediately, pending an investigation,” Nhleko wrote.
“This decision follows allegations of misconduct, fostering division, and tarnishing the party’s reputation.”
The letter, which was reviewed by The Bulrushes, continued: “Pending the investigation’s outcome, you are instructed not to represent the party in any official capacity and not to access or operate any MKP social media and public accounts, bank accounts, or digital platforms; you must return all party property, including but not limited to documents, devices, membership card, passwords, and access credentials, to the Office of the Secretary-General within seven days of this notice.”
Ndhlela, who was swiftly succeeded as MKP spokesperson by former The Star newspaper editor Sifisumusa Mahlangu, has not yet publicly commented on his situation.
