Manhunt for ‘Cop Killer’ Jabulani Moyo: Police Offer R150,000 Reward
Johannesburg – A reward of R150 000 has been offered for the re-arrest of Jabulani Moyo, who is accused of shooting two police officers before escaping.
The Zimbabwean national was facing trial for a business robbery that occurred in February 2023 when he allegedly committed the grave act of killing Detective Warrant Officer Vuyisile Sintwa and Sergeant Simon Masenya.
On Friday, 8 August 2025, while being escorted back to prison following a court appearance, Moyo reportedly disarmed and fatally shot the two officers in the Roodepoort CBD.

Following the incident, police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo stated: “The sergeant was pronounced dead at the crime scene, while the warrant officer was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
“Moyo was seen driving the police vehicle, which was subsequently discovered abandoned a few kilometers from the incident scene.”
Investigators retrieved leg irons and cartridges from the crime scene.
Both firearms belonging to the police officers were missing, indicating that Moyo is armed and poses a significant threat.
Acting Police Minister Professor Firoz Cachalia has paid a visit to the families of the two murdered officers.
He also expressed sorrow over the murder of another officer, Sergeant Lawrence Dumisani Mtshweni, in Mpumalanga.
The 47-year-old officer was shot while responding to a business burglary near Komatipoort in the early hours of Saturday, 9 August 2025.
Acting Police Minister Cachalia reassured the families of the deceased officers that the South African Police Service is diligently working to ensure that those responsible for these tragic crimes are held accountable.
