Home Affairs Dismisses 7 Employees in Ongoing Investigations into Misconduct

Johannesburg – The Department of Home Affairs has terminated the employment of seven more officials following disciplinary actions related to misconduct, raising the total number of dismissals to 63 since July 2024.

Home Affairs Minister Dr. Leon Schreiber announced the decision on Friday, 24 April 2026, revealing that an additional 16 officials have been suspended as part of ongoing investigations, including those influenced by findings from the Special Investigation Unit.

Since the establishment of the Government of National Unity in July 2024, the department has initiated at least 95 misconduct cases, with 75 of these already concluded.

The department stated that this underscores its dedication to swift and effective consequence management aimed at addressing corruption, maladministration, and unethical behavior.

Minister Schreiber remarked: “The rapid pace at which the department is now handling disciplinary issues, resulting in continual dismissals and other actions, showcases our commitment to rectifying the damage inflicted on Home Affairs over many years.”

Minister Schreiber highlighted that this crackdown is part of wider efforts to restore integrity within Home Affairs, enhance internal controls, and rebuild public confidence.

He noted: “Our zero-tolerance policy is not just rhetoric – it is evident through ongoing concrete actions aimed at reinstating the rule of law in a department crucial to the functioning of our society.”

The minister also mentioned that while misconduct is being eradicated, officials focused on executing the department’s digital transformation agenda will continue to receive support and recognition.
