Durban – A woman in her 50s has lost her life in a multi-vehicle accident on the M7 heading toward the Bluff, near the N2 intersection.
Just after 4:45 PM on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, ALS Paramedics were dispatched to the scene of the fatal collision.
“Upon arriving, paramedics encountered a scene of chaos as a truck, believed to be carrying copper plates, had lost control, colliding with four vehicles before overturning onto a light motor vehicle,” stated Garrith Jamieson, spokesperson for ALS Paramedics.
“Paramedics assessed the situation and found both the truck driver and the driver of the vehicle underneath the truck trapped in the wreckage.”
The eThekwini Fire Department was called in for assistance.
Two additional occupants sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene.
The eThekwini Fire Department employed the Jaws of Life to extricate the truck driver, who was then taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
Rescue personnel utilized a heavy-duty tow truck to lift the trailer and the load of copper off the crushed vehicle.
“Once access was achieved, paramedics discovered a woman believed to be in her 50s who had suffered fatal injuries,” Jamieson continued.
“Sadly, there was nothing paramedics could do for her, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.”
“The incident has since been turned over to the South African Police Service.”
The M7 in the direction of Durban was closed while emergency services managed the scene.
Currently, the circumstances leading up to the accident remain unclear; however, police are present on-site.
