Hunt Seeks to Leverage Cape Town Storm to Dampen Pirates’ Title Hopes
Stellenbosch coach Gavin Hunt remains positive about their prospects for achieving a top-eight finish in the Betway Premiership with four matches remaining.
Hunt’s squad will take on Orlando Pirates at a full Athlone Stadium on Tuesday night, with the match kicking off at 19:30.
Currently, Stellenbosch is in 10th place with 32 points after 26 matches.
The team is looking to bounce back from their recent loss to Polokwane City last week.
“After a brief 10-day hiatus since our last match—while an earlier game would have been preferable, we’re eager for this one,” Hunt remarked on the club’s website.

“It’s disappointing to have lost last week because we should have secured either a win or a draw. It was frustrating, as a better result would have positioned us more favorably heading into this match,” he added.
“We are still in contention for a top-eight finish, and we have a viable chance. Our goal is to secure at least three victories from our last four games.”
Hunt also noted that the forecasted rain in Cape Town may influence his game plan against the Pirates, although he believes it could be advantageous for his team.
“The weather affects our strategy because rain alters the game’s dynamics,” he explained.
The former Kaizer Chiefs manager has experience playing for Hellenic at Athlone Stadium and feels that a saturated pitch favors a more robust style of play.
“As the field becomes heavier and slower, it might benefit us, as Pirates excel at quick play,” Hunt remarked.
“They create more scoring opportunities than most teams, so we need to remain vigilant. The conditions significantly influence how we prepare for the match.”
