Charred Remains of Woman Discovered Beside Flaming Truck; Husband Taken Into Custody

Polokwane – Samuel Molefe, the man charged with murder after authorities discovered the charred body of his wife tied with a wire beside a burning bakkie, has been remanded in custody.

The 41-year-old suspect appeared in the Northam Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 5 May 2026, regarding a murder that took place in Northam within the Waterberg District of Limpopo.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the court appearance follows the horrific discovery made in the early hours of Sunday, 3 May 2026, along Sefikile Gravel Road next to MBT Garage.

“Police responded to a report of a vehicle on fire around 03:45,” stated Colonel Ledwaba.

“Upon their arrival, officers found a vehicle fully engulfed in flames and the body of a woman lying nearby.

“The deceased, aged 37, was discovered with a wire tied around her waist and had suffered extensive burn injuries.

“The body was burned beyond recognition.”

Colonel Malesela Ledwaba mentioned that Molefe, who is believed to be the husband of the victim, was arrested later that same day.

“While the motive behind the incident is still under investigation, domestic violence-related factors cannot be excluded,” the spokesperson remarked.

The accused will remain in custody until 12 May 2026 for further police inquiries.

Limpopo’s Provincial Commissioner of Police, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has vehemently condemned the incident and urged the public to pursue peaceful resolutions to conflicts.

“We continue to appeal to communities to refrain from violent actions, particularly in domestic situations,” stated Lieutenant General Hadebe.

“Taking the law into your own hands and resorting to murder is not a viable solution.

“We encourage individuals facing challenges in their relationships to seek help from appropriate support services and law enforcement agencies.”

Ongoing police investigations are in progress.
