Record-Breaking London Marathon Star Sabastian Sawe Announces Rapid Return to Exceed His Own Historic Time
RECORD-BREAKING athlete Sabastian Sawe is gearing up to pursue a new personal best on the world’s fastest elite marathon course.
The 31-year-old Kenyan star has signed up for the Berlin Marathon happening on Sunday, September 27.
He claimed victory in the German capital last year with a time of 2:02:16, showcasing his talents in only his third marathon, despite the tough 25C weather.
Last month, he made headlines at the London Marathon by becoming the first man to officially run 26.2 miles in under two hours, finishing with an astonishing time of 1:59:30.
Sawe expressed: “I’m excited to return to the Berlin Marathon this year to defend my title.”
“Many are likely curious about my goals for this race.”

Sawe, set to achieve millionaire status from his running success, may clock an even faster time as Berlin’s flatter course generally yields quicker results if the weather cooperates.
Eliud Kipchoge, another renowned Kenyan runner, completed a marathon in under two hours in controlled circumstances in Vienna, but his official best remains 2:01:09, achieved in Berlin in 2022.
Marathon runners typically compete twice a year, in the spring and autumn, allowing sufficient recovery time.
With no World Athletics Championships until 2027, Sawe has a chance to capitalize on his rising global fame with another outstanding performance.
Race Director Mark Milde commented: “With Sabastian’s impressive growth in recent months and his record-setting achievement, he has firmly established himself in the history books of marathon running.”
“Sabastian’s choice to come back to Berlin speaks volumes about the event’s global esteem and its fast course.”
“If race day conditions are favorable and Sabastian arrives in peak form, extraordinary things could happen.”
