Court Denies Ex-Speaker Mapisa-Nqakula’s Request for Access to Investigation Diary

Pretoria – The Pretoria High Court has rejected the application by former Speaker of Parliament, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, for the release of the “C” Section of the docket in which she faces corruption allegations.

In denying the request, Judge Mokhine Mosopa stated: “The court must be vigilant to avoid risks that could hinder the applicant’s case and compromise the proper administration of justice.”

“In my considered view, the applicant has not demonstrated the potential for such hindrance and has failed to establish a prima facie relevance for the disclosure of the C-section of the police dossier.”

The “C” Section refers to the investigation diary used in the case.

The matter has been postponed to 9 May 2025, during which the National Prosecuting Authority’s Investigating Directorate Against Corruption will provide a progress report concerning the representations submitted by the accused to the office of the National Director of Public Prosecutions.

Mapisa-Nqakula is facing a total of 12 charges related to corruption and money laundering, with accusations that she received and solicited R4.5 million, including R2.1 million allegedly received in cash from a service provider.

Her bail of R50,000 has been extended until her next court appearance.
