Gauteng Father in Court for Raping Daughter and Impregnating Her
A 39-year-old father from Gauteng appeared in the Tsakani Magistrate’s Court in Ekurhuleni, facing allegations of raping his teenage daughter and fathering a child with her. The appalling abuse reportedly began in March 2022 when the victim was just 15 years old.
According to Lumka Mahanjana, a spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the girl was living with her parents and younger brother in Tsakani at the time the assaults began.

“On the day of the first incident, the mother was at church, leaving the victim with her father and brother. Allegedly, the father called the victim into the house while she was playing outside and sent her brother to buy chips from the shop,” Mahanjana explained.
“When she came in, the victim found her father in her room. It’s alleged he locked the door, undressed both himself and the victim, raped her, and left her in the room afterwards.”

Mother’s Denial and Attempted Abortion
Upon returning home, the mother found her daughter in tears. The teenager disclosed the assault, but her mother did not believe her.
“After the initial incident, a second occurrence allegedly took place, yet the mother remained skeptical of the victim’s claims until she ceased reporting the rapes, which continued in her absence,” Mahanjana remarked.
Months later, the girl became ill and was taken to Pholosong Hospital, where doctors confirmed her pregnancy. In a shocking turn, her mother allegedly attempted to force an abortion by making her consume a harmful concoction, which was unsuccessful.
The parents subsequently sent the victim to Limpopo to live with her paternal grandmother, where she gave birth to a boy in December 2022.

Bravery in Seeking Justice at 18
Once she turned 18, the young woman displayed remarkable courage by filing a case in Limpopo in July 2025, which led to her father’s arrest.
In court, the accused requested bail of R1,000, asserting he was the primary caregiver for his three children, with his unemployed wife unable to provide for them. However, Sergeant Tebogo Lephoto, the investigating officer, strongly opposed the bail request.

“DNA evidence confirms the accused is the father of the victim’s child, now three years old,” Lephoto stated. “He is also likely to interfere with witnesses as he traveled from Gauteng to Limpopo to confront the victim after learning she had opened a case and discussed it on social media.”
The court has postponed the bail decision until August 12, 2025.
