In a statement on Tuesday, DA leader and Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis expressed the party’s expectation for its candidates to stand out and showcase their capacity for inclusive governance.
Focus on DA Mayoral Candidate Selection Process
Hill-Lewis highlighted that the DA’s candidate selection process is intentional and organized, emphasizing the importance of readiness and community engagement prior to elections.
“We do not operate as a party reliant on patronage. We are not simply a party that reacts to the leader’s whims through tweets or Facebook posts. We are a party dedicated to formal institutions that ensure improved governance over time.”
He also mentioned that announcing candidates in advance enables them to connect meaningfully with residents in the communities they aspire to lead.
