Another Monday night kickoff is on the horizon for Manchester United.

Brentford at home marks the seventh evening fixture out of 13 for Michael Carrick since he took the reins in January.

United fans have grown accustomed to weekend breaks from action, but that will change next season.

As the club appears to be on track for a return to Europe, likely in the Champions League, there will be fewer Monday and Friday night kickoffs moving forward.

In the meantime, here’s the latest from Old Trafford and Carrington:

Roo’s Influence

WAYNE ROONEY played a key role in persuading a young Manchester United talent to join their academy from Liverpool earlier this season.

Rooney’s sons, Kai and Klay, are part of the United academy, and the former captain’s presence at youth matches helped sway one player to transition from Liverpool.

Kai, 16, participated in United’s FA Youth Cup journey but is out for the remainder of the season due to injury.

His father has been advocating for Carrick’s permanent role as head coach.

Carrick and Rooney played alongside each other for nine years, and Carrick was present at Rooney’s wedding to Coleen in 2008.

Carrick’s 15-year-old son, Jacey, is also a member of the United academy and made his under-18 debut in December.

Attention to Detail

UNITED’S detailed approach at the academy involves analyzing players’ bone density to gauge their development potential.

This method is prevalent in China, where they track athletes’ bone density to determine suitable running distances.

Football clubs employ similar techniques to predict a player’s growth, as height plays a crucial role in player selection.

United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe noted last October that the academy “had really slipped,” referring to its facilities.

Plans for upgrading the academy at Carrington are in place but not yet revealed.

Kai’s Progress

Injury might be hindering Kai Rooney’s advancement, but he still enjoys certain privileges.

Last Thursday, he was seen walking into the first-team building at Carrington, despite not training with the senior squad.

Most likely, he was utilizing the state-of-the-art facilities for rehabilitation.

Boost for Bruno

UNITED is making a concerted effort to elevate Bruno Fernandes’ chances of winning the PFA and FWA Player of the Year awards.

Fernandes, who commemorated his 300th club appearance in October with this correspondent, recently had a significant interview with journalists from a Sunday newspaper.

The United captain also engaged in a discussion with Wayne Rooney for a BBC podcast at the Carrington training ground.

Rooney was the last United player to earn both the PFA and FWA awards in 2010.

United staff have encouraged Carrick to promote Fernandes, who is currently a leading candidate for these accolades.

Press Matters

CARRICK’S pre-match press session on Thursday occurred 100 hours before the match against Brentford on Monday evening.

This rendered inquiries about team news largely irrelevant, considering United still has three training sessions lined up before the game.

In the second half, reporters inquired about Matthijs de Ligt’s rehabilitation, which is under embargo until 10:30pm on Sunday.

At 9am Friday, the United website issued a brief update indicating De Ligt has begun outdoor individual training.

Support at Carrington

BRYAN MBEUMO received a warm round of applause as he departed Carrington on Thursday.

A group of fans surrounded Mbeumo’s vehicle, seeking autographs and selfies.

One fan in a wheelchair joyfully posed for a picture with Mbeumo after he exited his car.

Other supporters applauded Mbeumo for his thoughtful gesture.

Off the Pitch

LENY YORO is currently sidelined due to injury, but he remains active off the pitch.

A member of the club’s commercial team accompanied Yoro as he conducted promotional activities last Thursday afternoon.

Penalty Trouble

UNITED goalkeeper Fred Heath was seen warming up towards the end of extra time during last week’s FA Youth Cup semi-final against Crystal Palace.

Chido Obi’s late goal pushed United into the final, avoiding penalties, but just five days later, United and Palace’s under-18 teams met again at Selhurst Park.

The Premier League Under 18 Cup final went to penalties, and Darren Fletcher decided to substitute Heath in for Cameron Byrne-Hughes.

Byrne-Hughes allowed Palace to equalize in stoppage time while attempting to distract scorer Benji Casey with a kiss.

Heath entered in the 119th minute, but the Tim Krul-inspired strategy failed, as he conceded all six penalties, causing Palace to triumph 6-5 in the shootout.

The 18-year-old Heath recently trained with the first team during their camp in Ireland earlier this month, stepping in for Tom Heaton who fell ill.

However, Heaton returned to rejoin his teammates the following day.

Reserve the Date

The date for the Youth Cup final between City and United remains unconfirmed, but Wednesday, May 13, is a possibility.

City is set to host the first all-Manchester Youth Cup final in 40 years, with fans eager for the Etihad Stadium to serve as the venue for this historic event.

United previously held the 2022 final at Old Trafford, which saw a record 67,492 fans watch Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo lift the trophy.

City’s stadium may host the Youth Cup final

By the time of that final, the United first team will have completed all their home matches, ensuring no scheduling conflicts.

The FA’s website mistakenly indicated this year’s final date as Saturday, May 9, though City’s first team has a match against Brentford that day.

The Youth Cup final is typically scheduled for a midweek slot.
