US-Kuwaiti Journalist Ahmed Shihab-Eldin Found Not Guilty of All Charges
Washington, D.C. — The Committee to Protect Journalists applauds the Kuwaiti court’s decision to acquit US-Kuwaiti journalist Ahmed Shihab-Eldin on all charges after nearly two months of detention.
“We are grateful that Ahmed Shihab-Eldin has been declared innocent after spending 52 days in custody,” CPJ CEO Jodie Ginsberg stated on April 23, 2026.
“Ensuring Ahmed’s freedom and safety remains our utmost concern, and we will continue to diligently monitor his situation.”

Ahmed is an award-winning journalist known for his contributions to The New York Times, PBS, and Al Jazeera English, among other notable outlets.
He had not posted on social media since March 2 while visiting family in Kuwait and was arrested on March 3.
On April 23, Shihab-Eldin’s sisters’ lawyers announced that Ahmed had been acquitted.
