Royal African Society Names Professor Benedict Oramah as Its Second Patron

London – The Royal African Society (https://RoyalAfricanSociety.org) has shared the exciting news that its members have unanimously chosen Professor Benedict Okey Oramah as the Society’s second Patron during an Extraordinary General Meeting.

Professor Oramah joins the Society at a pivotal time, coinciding with its 125th anniversary, marking a significant milestone in its history.

A renowned economist and leader in development finance, Professor Oramah held the position of President and Chairman of the African Export–Import Bank from 2015 to 2025.

During his decade-long tenure, he was instrumental in transforming the institution into one of Africa’s most influential financial entities.

His remarkable contributions have earned him numerous accolades, including the Forbes Africa Person of the Year and several African Banker of the Year awards.

In the realms of government, finance, and the private sector, he is celebrated as a key architect of modern African trade finance.

Throughout his career, he spearheaded significant initiatives that have redefined Africa’s trade and financial landscape, such as the Pan-African Payment and Settlement System, the Intra-African Trade Fair, and initiatives aimed at promoting industrialization and the creative economy.

Furthermore, he has played a critical role in enhancing connections between Africa and the global diaspora.
