Durban: Two Killed in Saturday Afternoon Single-Car Crash on M4

Durban – Two individuals have lost their lives in a single-vehicle accident on the M4 South Bound near Walter Gilbert Road.

ALS Paramedics are currently at the crash site, which took place in the afternoon on Saturday, May 2, 2026.

Spokesperson Garrith Jamieson stated that ALS Paramedics responded to emergency calls around 3 pm.

“Upon arrival, paramedics encountered a scene of chaos and destruction,”

“They discovered that a single vehicle carrying five passengers had somehow lost control and struck a tree in the center median,” Jamieson explained.

The driver and front-seat passenger were trapped in the wreckage, prompting the Ethekweni Fire Department to utilize the Jaws of Life to extract them.

“The two men, believed to be in their 20s, suffered severe injuries, and unfortunately, paramedics were unable to save them. They were pronounced dead at the scene,” Jamieson remarked.

Three other passengers, all men in their 20s, sustained significant injuries.

Advanced Life Support paramedics worked diligently to stabilize them on-site before transferring them to nearby hospitals for the necessary care.

“One patient suffered critical injuries and was placed on a ventilator at the scene,” Jamieson noted.

Officers from the South African Police Service and Metro police were also present.
