Orlando Pirates 1-1 Kaizer Chiefs: Soweto Derby Excites, But Ends in Draw

Johannesburg – In an intense Soweto Derby at FNB Stadium on Sunday afternoon, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs battled to a thrilling 1-1 draw in front of a lively crowd of 94,000 fans.

The Betway Premiership showdown lived up to its reputation as one of South Africa’s most heated rivalries, delivering end-to-end action, late excitement, and a wealth of passion, but neither team could seize the upper hand or secure all three points.

Chiefs took the lead in the 62nd minute. Wandile Duba delivered a smart pass into the area, where Pule Mmodi calmly finished past Sipho Chaine, sending the visiting supporters into a frenzy.

This goal capped a strong phase for Amakhosi, who had looked threatening on the counter after enduring an early push from the Pirates.

The Buccaneers reacted with urgency. Just 13 minutes later, substitute Kamogelo Sebelebele soared high to head home a precise cross, equalizing at 1-1 in the 75th minute.

The equalizer energized the home fans and shifted the game’s momentum, but despite late pushes from both sides, the score remained level.
